Born in remote northern Tasmania, Luke moved to Byron Bay in 2002
where he completed the 'Above the line' film course, after which he
started writing and directing films. He won the northern rivers
screenworks ‘home grown’ short film competition with his short
script ‘Mindflux’.
In 2004 Luke moved to Sydney to improve his screen writing skills.
While researching a screenplay Luke began photographing in the
streets and lanes of Sydney’s inner city. This evolved into nearly a
year of prolific photography, sleeping in the streets, knowing the
people of those places, documenting the struggles of the homeless
and people suffering mental illness.
It was this journey into the halogen twilight of the city that revealed Luke’s talent for capturing light and his sensitivity in seizing beauty in the darkest aspects of humanity.
Luke is a self-taught photographer whose stark, dramatic images depict a raw, intimate beauty. Luke strives to maintain a mediumistic quality in his approach to photography and writing.
Luke later returned to Byron bay where he began working for ‘FasterLouder’ as a music photographer, working with many national and international acts.
In 2009 Luke began travelling in Europe where he worked as a cinema stills photographer, for ‘Common films’ based in Madrid .
Luke now lives in Menorca Spain where he works as a freelance photographer/writer. ‘Halogen Twilight of the Heart’ will be exhibited this year in Menorca under the support of the Consell insular Menorca.
